A Taste of West Cork

West Cork Emblem: Fuchsia, A taste of West CorkA Taste of West Cork is an annual Food Festival that takes place in Skibbereen, Ireland's most southerly town, each September. Local food producers come together with skilled and innovative chefs to showcase one of West Cork's greatest assets;
Influenced by a clean temperate climate, proud farming traditions and an abundant supply of fresh raw material, West Cork is long renowned at home and abroad for its excellent food produce

This years Taste of West Cork Festival (2009) took place from September 14th to 20th and brought together a delectible mix of brunches & banquets, food-tastings and special dinners along with food markets and demonstrations, cookery competitions, and even live music!  The big attractions included a Live concert by Brian Kennedy in Abbeystrewry Church and a cookery demonstration by Neven Maguire in the, recently refurbished, West Cork Hotel.The 2010 event will most likely take place at the same time of year. Confirmation is to follow soon.

The program of events for A Taste of West Cork 2009 was as follows:

Mon 14th September - Meat Masterclass with William Walsh, Butcher - hosted by food writer and broadcaster Dianne Curtin.

Price 20 per person. Time: 7pm-9.30pm at Tom Walsh's Butchers, Bridge St, Skibbereen.

The West Cork Hotel, Ilen Street. 028 21277 Time: 6.30pm  "THE MINIHANE FAMILY - MAGICAL MEMORIES THROUGH THE LENS"
The Photo Exhibition will run for the duration of the Food Festival at The West Cork Hotel.

Wed 16th - Final of the Schools Cookery Competition
Venue: Mercy Heights Secondary School  Time 11am - 1pm
Celebrity and award winning chef, Neven Maguire, will judge the competition again this year along with local award winning food producer, Sally Barnes.

Wed 16th - Fun Table Quiz
Venue: Baby Hannah’s Bar, Bridge St. Great prizes to be won.   Time: 9pm     Cost
40.00 per table, teams of 4

Thurs 17th - Sushi Demonstration at Apple Betty's Cafe  Time: 5pm – 6pm    Cost: 5.00

Fri 18th - Brian Kennedy pre-concert dinner
Various Skibbereen Restaurants , including Annie Mays, Kalbos, Over The Moon, The Riverside, The Church and the West Cork Hotel

Fri 18th - Brian Kennedy in Concert. Abbeystrewry Church, Bridge St,   Time : 8.30pm  Cost: Tickets 30.00(available from Thornhill Electrical)

Sat 19th - Autumn Sunrise in West Cork  Time: 10am @ The West Cork Hotel  Price; 15.00 per person for Continental Buffet and Plated Breakfast.

Sun 20th Open Air Food & Craft Market - A day of Fun for the Whole Family The Fair Field 11am- 6pm Cost: 5.00 per adult, children and OAP's free

Sun 20th - Childrens' Teddy Bear Picnic The Fairfield Car Park Time: 3pm
