Abbey Hotel

A charming 18th Century Manor house, the Abbey Hotel sits within peaceful private gardens overlooking the ruins of Roscommon Abbey in the central location of County Roscommon.

The Abbey ruins in the grounds that the hotel takes its name from date back to the 13th Century, when the last High King of Connaught Felim O'Connor established a Monastery here in 1253. Forming the core of the hotel is the splendid 18th Century Manor House, whose proud castellated facade greets you on entrance.

The Abbey Hotel has a selection of beautifully appointed bedrooms, generously spaced and tastefully furnished with classical luxuries themes. Ground floor rooms are available for those reliant on wheel chairs and the hotel also have interconnecting rooms, ideal for families. The area of Roscommon will be known to fishermen for the popular coarse fishing areas of Shannon Valley and Suck Valley. I was first given a noisy room next to a wedding party the first night but they kindly moved me to a room in the front. But I heard a lot of traffic noise and finally got used to it.

A little bit outside Roscommon town but still within walking distance. Very warm atmosphere in the public areas particulatly in the bar and restaurant where you will definately meet some locals. Very friendly staff. Rooms good quality but nothing spectacular

spacious rooms & bathrooms. decor plain & simple yet cosy. History with the hotel so that would interest some. good location, near roscommon town centre. great leisure facilities. food was excellent with a wide variety. staff friendly and helpful

15 mins from town, a very friendly atsomphere. The dining room looks out on the old abbey ruins, the food was excellent , the bar was busy and all staff were very friendly.
