Abbey Hotel

A charming 18th Century Manor house, the Abbey Hotel sits within peaceful private gardens overlooking the ruins of Roscommon Abbey in the central location of County Roscommon.

The Abbey ruins in the grounds that the hotel takes its name from date back to the 13th Century, when the last High King of Connaught Felim O'Connor established a Monastery here in 1253. Forming the core of the hotel is the splendid 18th Century Manor House, whose proud castellated facade greets you on entrance.

The Abbey Hotel has a selection of beautifully appointed bedrooms, generously spaced and tastefully furnished with classical luxuries themes. Ground floor rooms are available for those reliant on wheel chairs and the hotel also have interconnecting rooms, ideal for families. For that special occasion the Abbey Hotel offers extra luxury in its fabulous four-poster suite, with sumptuous period fittings and lavish free standing bathtub.

The renowned Terrace Restaurant situated overlooking the Abbey ruins offers a range of innovative dishes, using fresh local produce and served with great attention to detail and presentation. After enjoying the Abbey's culinary delights, the stylish bar is perfect for enjoying an aperitif and a chat.

Adjoining the hotel is the Abbey Health & Fitness centre, Roscommon's premier leisure club equipped with 20m indoor swimming pool, children's pool, sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi and state of the art gym.

The area of Roscommon will be known to fishermen for the popular coarse fishing areas of Shannon Valley and Suck Valley. The Abbey Hotel is situated less than a mile from the centre of the small town of Roscommon and is well placed for accessing the main roads to the north, south, east and west of Ireland.

Nice hotel, good service

Julie Shmueli on Tue Oct 9 2007

I was first given a noisy room next to a wedding party the first night but they kindly moved me to a room in the front. But I heard a lot of traffic noise and finally got used to it.
