Ballybofey

header.jpgThe towns of Ballybofey and Stranorlar are linked by an arched bridge over the River Finn. While this part of Donegal is not noted for tourism, there is excellent fishing, cycling and hiking available. In Ballybofey's Protestant church is the grave of Isaac Butt (1813 - 1879), founder of the Irish Home Rule movement.

The River Finn is a good salmon river and fishing gear is available from McElhinneys. There is good hiking and hill-walking on the Blue Stack Mountains and along the Ulster Way - bring maps and provisions.

For traditional music try The Claddagh, Bonners Corner Bar and the small Balor Theatre. The Finn Farm Youth Hostel is a centre for a community scheme aimed at reviving dying musical traditions. It is open 10am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.
