The Ballymakeigh House is set within the rich farmlands of East Cork and yet lying near the sandy beaches of the southern coast of County Cork. Margaret Browne, your hostess, welcomes you warmly into her eighteenth century farmhouse which is the epitome of graceful country living.
Ballymakeigh House is an extremely comfortable home from home - bedrooms provide sweeping views of lush farmland while a spacious flower-bedecked conservatory offers the first and last of the day's sunlight. In summer and spring this room is bathed in light while in winter, the congenial hospitality of the house creates a warm atmosphere, however inclement the weather outside may be. The rooms have been attractively furnished and decorated throughout - well-chosen antique pieces add to the elegance of this traditional country house.
This is indeed high praise but obviously well-deserved too for Mrs Browne and Ballymakeigh have won a breathtaking gathering of awards - Farm Guest House of the Year, Landlady of the Year, Housewife of the Year, even the 'Breaking the Mould of Irish Baking Award'. Such acclaim is not awarded lightly and many past guests of Ballymakeigh would agree heartily with such sentiments.
The region is historically and culturally important and still has a number of Gaeltacht areas. Visits to islands such as the Blaskets, Garnish and Cape Clear are particular treats while the Ring of Kerry and Killarney town remain firm favourites year after year.

Very nice hotel with an exceptionally friendly owner/hostess who is well known for her culinary expertise, the experience starts with a warm welcome, coffee and apple pie on arrival. The hotel is in a beautiful area and you really are away from it all, which is confirmed by the fact that the owners have not put TVs in each room. There is a communal lounge room where we could relax and spend time getting to know our fellow guests and hosts. Nice place to relax and experience rural Ireland.
"It has been a pleasure working with you and your company. I really appreciate your professionalism, tourism expertise, and your patience and willingness in helping me enjoy a great vacation. Rest assured, when I visit Ireland again (and I will), you will be the first person I call. I will also refer you to people I know who may travel the same path." -- Mak
