Bunratty Castle Hotel

Situated in one of Ireland's most famous villages, Bunratty Castle Hotel lies a stones throw from the famous 15th Century Bunratty Castle and within stumbling distance of one of its medieval banquets.

Bunratty Castle Hotel is an elegant and charming place, with sumptuous rooms decorated with Georgian, medieval and traditional country house themes. Each of the hotel's bedrooms are wonderfully spacious and tastefully decorated using comfortable colours and fine furnishings creating a cosy, homely atmosphere. While each bedroom is equipped with modern facilities from air-conditioning to Internet access.

Kathleen's Irish Pub & Restaurant at the hotel offers good food and lively atmosphere in laid back traditionally set surroundings and holds regular traditional Irish music sessions and a Traditional Irish Night to rival the castle's, so be prepared to sing, dance and join in on the "Siege of Ennis".

Bunratty Castle Hotel boasts an excellent location, situated besides one of Ireland's most popular visitor attractions; Bunratty Castle & Folk Park, as well as Ireland's most photographed pub Durty Nellies and just five miles from Shannon Airport.

As well as Bunratty Castle, the sights near to the hotel include the Cliffs of Moher, the City of Limerick, the setting for Frank McCourt's Angela's Ashes, while the Burren, Galway, Connemara and Killarney are all a days drive away.

Guest Reviews of

The clerk who checked us in was not the least bit helpful. The other staff that we encountered were all pleasant and eager to assist.

Kristine Geddings on Tue Jun 21 2011

This was a great location for departure out of Shannon Airport. The room was nice but a bit small. It reminded me more of accomodation in the US at a good hotel. We did enjoy our meal in the Italian restaurant. Very clean, everyone was nice!

Karen Kayes on Mon May 30 2011

We LOVED our first night's stay at Bunratty Castle Hotel. It was a great way to begin our Ireland adventure. I had inquired the day before if we could get an early check-in as we arrived in Ireland at 5:30 am. The staff was very accommadating and we so appreciated being able to catch a few hours of sleep before we headed out to explore.

Laurie Sheehan on Sun May 1 2011

A little out of the way.

Bill Hamilton on Sat Oct 2 2010

Enjoyed our stay. Great accomadations.

Mrs Kate Fabrizio on Wed Sep 29 2010

Again a great time.

Donna Hughes on Tue Sep 7 2010

Great place to unwind at the end of a trip. had a fire alarm incident at 12:50 AM. By 6 AM there was a letter of apology inder the door. Have stayed at many hotels, NEVER received an apology before for a false alarm. Excellent!

John Mcgrath on Wed Sep 1 2010

They should make arrangements for an earlier breakfast for guests departing on earlier flights.

Mr Jerry Yates on Mon May 31 2010

An excellent location in the heart of Bunratty within walking distance to everything and just a short drive from Shannon Airport. There was a wedding in the hotel but if I hadn't seen the bride arriving I wouldn't even have known. Room was very quiet. Didn't get a chance to use the spa but the services looked good and very reasonably priced. Liked the fact that they would cook the eggs fresh for you at breakfast - don't be afraid to ask.

Genevieve Sheehan on Thu Oct 15 2009

hotel accommodation was good

Renay Pittman on Fri Oct 9 2009

This is a fairly nice hotel but the staff is rude beyond words and the restaurant schedules very inconvenient and unclear. The spa made me jump through hoops to get my grandchildren (ages 14 and 17) in to swim saying it was after hours but when we went down to swim the pool was full of children. Unacceptably rude.

Helen Mcrory on Mon Aug 31 2009

Did not rate food as we left at 6AM before breakfast to catch our flight home. The hotel was excellent.

Benny Pittman on Sat Aug 8 2009

they were not very family friendly, seemed more concerned about spa guests than anyone else.

Shone Gray on Tue Jun 30 2009

The Bunratty was obviously very well located for our trip to the airport. While not a bad place, they were pretetnious and had nothing to be prententious about! They did have great A/C thoughbut their rooms were very small

Ted Kelley on Tue Jun 16 2009

Beautiful hotel. We flew out too early for breakfast, so we didn't get to eat there.

Lynn Sapp on Fri Jun 12 2009

They claimed to have a power failure on a wing and relocated us to the Radission. There was a huge wedding reception, I am very suspicious of their claim

Gerard Allen on Wed May 27 2009

This was our favorite hotel in Ireland. The rooms were the best we had of the four hotels we stayed in during our visit. The upgrades were very nice.

Judy Milburn on Tue May 26 2009

We were only disappointed in one hotel and this was it. We had 2 rooms, one on floor 1, one on floor 2. The room on floor 1 was fine and we had my elderly mom and 3 of my children in that room. The room on the second floor was 3 rooms away from the smoking floor of the hotel - partioned off by a door that was never closed. I asked to switch room and they said there was nothing else available. To walk to our room was disgusting -the smell nauseating the smoke permiated everything! We got NO sleep. Also, we got to the hotel about 5:15pm after travelling and the kids were so excited to use the pool - when we got down there we were told that they could only use the pool until 6:00 because then the pool goes "private" and no kids are allowed to go in it. They certainly took my money for the bathing caps! That was really disappointing!

Mairead Chong on Fri Apr 17 2009

While the outside of the hotel and the lobby look like a very nice hotel the rooms, I felt, were low end for the type of accommodation advertised. The food was not hot, the eggs swimming in liquid and the staff only mildly attentive. This was the only place in our trip I would not go back to. Plus the tour buses that came in the morning had the passengers spread out all over the lounge, some sleeping, while rooms become available.

Cheryl Schmidt on Fri Oct 10 2008

perfect answer to an early flight from Shannon. thanks

Judy Mcgovern on Tue Sep 23 2008

We had read on line that this experience was too touristy but we found that the folk village and medieval banquet to be entertaining and interesting. The shops were of better quality then most and we had a great day there,

Connie Tormey on Sat Sep 20 2008

Would be nice if the pool was more open to kids ... they were very restrictive ... staff wasn't very helpful with questions (acted like it was a burden to answer) ... hotel itself was very nice

Kathleen Hogan on Tue Aug 26 2008

he biggest hotel room on the trip. Very convenient location for our planned route. he Bunratty Folk was enjoyable and informative.

Terry Spring on Mon Aug 18 2008

Everything was very nice

Dan Polaski on Wed Aug 13 2008

When we first arrived, we requested a shuttle to return our car to Shannon airport, and were told they stop running early afternoon. We requested a baggage cart and they delivered one, but never offered to help get our things to our room. Our room was supposed to be a triple, but when get got there, it only had 2 twin beds. We requested they change it while we were returning the car, which we had to pay a 22 euro cab fare. When we got back to our room, they had just placed a roll away bed in the corner. We again, asked for a triple room, as we had paid for. They switched rooms, but by the time all this had taken place, we were 10 minutes too late for the last tour of the castle. (They also did not offer to help move our baggage from the one room to the other) At around 5 am the next morning, the fire alarm went off. We got dressed and called the front desk to be told it was a false alarm.

Rita Pace on Sat Jul 5 2008

Too modern for me I like places like Abbeyglen

Donald Harworth on Fri May 30 2008

Pleasant and convenient.

Mrs Joanna Jordan on Mon May 19 2008

A minor note -- we were at the end of an extremely long corridor -- overlooking the fire escape from one window

Nancy Miller on Fri Apr 18 2008

Good lacation for the castle and Shannon airport

Ed Cater on Wed Mar 26 2008

This was a beautiful and our favorite hotel. We lost our luggage for 3 days after we arrived and they were most accommodating. The Castle itself and the other nearby buildings were lovely. Thank God there was a Blarney Mills across the street as we needed clothes!

Lisa Witt on Fri Feb 8 2008

Very nice hotel for most of us. One room was not as nice as the others - one on 2nd floor. But rest of group had better rooms on 1st floor.

Maureen Fahey on Mon Jan 14 2008

We were very impressed with this hotel and the staff. A contintental breakfast was ready and waiting for us, even at 4:30 a.m.! The rooms were beautiful, and well appointed.

Elise Frederick on Tue Oct 16 2007

HAD BEDROOM WINDOW OPEN. AT 3;45 A.M. CIGARETTE SMOKE AND NOISE FROM LOWER LEVEL FILTERED INTO THE ROOM. CALL SECURITY AND SHUT MY WINDOW.

Norbert Kozlowski on Wed Oct 10 2007

Originally we were in a smoking room and could only get a twin room in the non-smoking wing. New wing rooms are much nicer than old.

Don Dunham on Tue Sep 25 2007

Excellent choice.

Lee O'Higgins on Wed Sep 12 2007

this place was just awesome. the perfect location to visit the bunratty and you could spend a whole day just in this area alone. Being in walking distance just made it more perfect. This was one of my favorite places that we visited.

Rose Lawson on Wed Sep 12 2007

It was warm and humid during our stay in Ireland and the Bunratty was well air conditioned making our stay most enjoyable. I have stayed at B & B's before that did not have A/C and it was not enjoyable. I would recommend the Bunratty Castle Hotel to anyone going to Ireland. It's worth paying a few dollars more for good accommodations. Thank you.

Martin Heneghan on Sat Sep 8 2007

I think when a group, especially a family is traveling together all the room should be comprable and in teh same area. Some people were in the old part and the rooms were not that nice.

Ann, Ronald and Jason Peaslee on Sun Sep 2 2007

It was our last night and so we had an early flight and were not able to try out the breakfast part of our stay.

Kevin Hensley on Thu Aug 9 2007

We found that when we got there in the afternoon, the restaurant had already been fully booked and was like this the whole time we were there. They were helpful in finding us a medieviel dinner located at one of the local castles including getting us a taxi to the castle.

Pauline Newcomb on Tue Aug 7 2007

We didn't have any problems with this hotel. Over-all we enjoyed our stay.

Richard Falzone on Wed Jul 18 2007

Next to tourist trap. Room was very nice.

Cindy Martindale on Mon Jul 2 2007

Bunratty was a bit too commercial but the hotel room was lovely. We had a view of an old church and graveyard from our window. Breakfast was a disaster because they were serving two bus groups and the food was for the masses. We did like being close to the airport in the morning.

Frances Koontz on Tue Jun 26 2007

was great and the dinner show at castle was great.what a great frist night in ireland

Phyllis Casey on Sat Jun 23 2007

Great location-near airport and Dirty Nellie's.

John Barker on Thu May 31 2007

It was wonderful to have the opportunity to walk to great local shopping so convenient to the airport. A perfect last stop!

Gail Denman on Wed May 23 2007

We enjoyed staying there and really enjoyed the shopping at The Blarney Wollen Mills nearby.

Vivian Johnson on Wed May 16 2007

Excellent location. I've been to the pale imitations of Dirty Nelly's here in the states. I was able to have a pint at the real deal, oddly enough with a very nice German couple. We couldn't communicate, but they were sweet. The Banquet was a blast, I was thrown in the dungeon.

Joseph Levesque on Tue Feb 13 2007

Facilities grade based upon expected finished product when renocations completed

Sean Kelly on Thu Dec 14 2006

Great location right beside Bunratty Castle. Nice modern hotel with a good bar.

Paul O'Brien on Thu Feb 23 2006

The location is good. But the interior of the hotel is perhaps a bit artificial for the french guests

Carole Razet on Thu Feb 23 2006

This hotel is located next to the famous Bunratty Castle and has also lots of rooms for smokers.
