Carrickfergus

header-carrickferfus-castle.jpgCarrickfergus is a dream for anybody with an interest in history. One of the oldest towns in Northern Ireland, it has some of the finest Norman architecture in Europe, with its castle lauded as the jewel in its crown. Built in the 12th century by Knight John de Courcy, its history is revealed in an audio visual presentation and brought to life by a cast of faithfully created characters from 800 years ago.

Amazingly the town still has some of its original walls remaining. Built in the early 17th century, these are excellent examples of Jacobean architecture.

Carrickfergus is a huge magnet for the yachting and sailing fraternity worldwide, and its magnificent marina has been the focus of a number of major international events including the 1997 World Optimist Dinghy Championships.

Carrickfergus is also perfect as a base for not only touring the splendid Causeway Coast but also for day trips into Belfast. One can experience the delights of Belfast before retiring to this quiet rural setting once again. With two train services daily to Belfast you don't even have to worry about any traffic.

Testimonials

"I just wanted to let you know our Ireland trip was fabulous!!
Thank you so much!
Your recommendation to Adare Manor was a top tip!
I went to Ashford Castle as well, it was very very nice to, but my preference is still Adare Manor.
I just wish that I had booked 2 nights there instead of just one.
The B&Bs were TOP too! Especially the one in Kilkieren up in Galway. Barbara was lovely and couldn't have done more to make our stay memorable.
The Hillside House is definately one you can recommend to anyone!" -- Silke
