Situated in a
lovely part of city centre just a few minutes walk from Temple Bar is Christ
Church Cathedral. The cathedral is the
oldest in Dublin, and contains many important artifacts of the Church of
England.
Built in the
year 1038, the Christ Church cathedral is a lovely destination to experience
some of what was so influential in the country of Ireland a long time ago. The church itself was actually ordered into
construction by Vikings in Dublin.
Christ Church prides itself on its choir which is internationally
renowned as one of the world's finest.
The medieval building, though renovated, retains the feel of an old
church. In comparison with other
European cathedrals it is not on the same grand scale, but it provides a view
into a time that was much simpler and reverent.
When visiting it is advisable to mind any children who are present, as
the cathedral's staff are very particular about the noise level inside.
Christ Church
Cathedral is open in June through August from 9 AM until 6 PM. In the months of September through May the
cathedral is open from 9:45 AM until 5 PM.
There is an admission fee of €5.
Also services for the Church of England are given. Its' location in city centre make it easily
accessible by foot from Temple Bar.
