Claremorris

header.jpgClaremorris in County Mayo is a historic town, with a monastic settlement dating back as far the 8th century. Deriving its name from Maurice de Prendergast, a Norman who came to the town in the 1170s, Claremorris was latterly a key town for The Land League. The Land League had been set up in 1879 to gain rights for the tenants and to ultimately bring about peasant ownership of land. However today Claremorris is an excellent base for touring Mayo, being in the centre of the county.

Knock Shrine is just 7 miles away while the coast is within easy driving distance. The people of Claremorris are welcoming, public transport facilities are efficient, and the surrounding countryside particularly scenic.

Activities in the area include horseriding, angling on the River Robe along with an 18 hole golf course and the 25 metre swimming pool. A number of festivals are held throughout the year including the Drama and Summer Festivals . Excellent accommodation can also be found in the region.

Testimonials

"Sorry this is so late but I just wanted to say Thank you so much for planning such a wonderful trip! We enjoyed every aspect of it. I just wanted to let you know that the tax on the Bed & Breakfast's was a Dublin tax." -- Audrey
