Dromoland Castle

One of the top luxury hotels of the world, Dromoland Castle in Co. Clare, dates back to the 16th Century and is the ancestral home of the O'Brien clan, direct descendants of the last High King of Ireland; Brian Boru.

Dromoland is one of the most romantic and picturesque castles you will find, with a rich depth of history going back to the Gaelic Irish royalty of old. Set within a private estate, Dromoland Castle is one of Ireland's and the world's finest hotels and has played hosts to Princes and Presidents, including George W Bush on his recent visit to Ireland.

As you'd expect Dromoland offers the utmost in luxury, blending old world elegance with modern day comforts and a complete range of facilities, activities and services. Priceless reminders of Dromoland's history can be found throughout the castle, furnished with fine antiques, splendid wood and stone carvings and original oil paintings. Each of the fabulously appointed guest rooms have been individually designed with meticulous detail, enjoying the finest of furnishings mixing old world charm with very modern amenities and each has magical views across Dromoland's grounds.

Dromoland's award-winning Earl of Thomond Restaurant offers a relaxed but elegant gastronomic experience. Considered one of the finest restaurants in Ireland, its menu is renowned for its creativity and its culinary excellence is complimented by a fine selection of wines. While the Fig Tree Restaurant offers a less formal approach and the Castle Library is the perfect setting for a Cocktail Bar, with gently burning log fire, candlelit in the evening and hosting Irish Ballads, providing the background for after dinner drinks.

Dromoland Castle offers a huge selection of activities. Surrounding the Castle is Dromoland's 18-hole parkland golf course, while the castles other sporting pursuits include fishing, horse riding, archery and clay pigeon shooting.

Nearby are the popular visitor attractions of Bunratty Castle & Folk Park, the Cliffs of Moher and the scenic beauty of the Burren, while Dromoland Castle is just 8 miles from Shannon Airport.

Never left the castle. Nice way to end trip, relax and enjoy the grounds. Plenty to do.

Diane Ross on Wed Jul 20 2011

Beautiful grounds. Unfortunately placed in area they were painting. The Thomond room and service was excellent.

Darlene Burns on Wed Jun 22 2011

We stayed at Dromoland on our final night, and it was the perfect finale for an exceptional trip. The staff is fabulous; the facility is well appointed, and the food was great.

Brenda Bonham on Wed Jun 22 2011

Enjoyed everything about the Dromoland Castle. Very nice!

Helene Patton on Tue Jun 14 2011

I have never experienced a stay like this in my life. Words cannot decribe the impeccible service of this establishment. I loved every minute I was there and wished my stay was longer. I look forward to returning.

Coreen Farley on Sat May 7 2011

Such a beautiful property. We even took advantage of their falconry and shooting classes!

Dorothy Smyk on Thu May 5 2011

I had no idea what to expect, but a night in a castle sounded good. My wife and I were blown away. It was an indescribable experience.

Dwight Reynolds on Tue Apr 12 2011

simply perfect, had absolutely no desire to leave the estate

Ewoud Tan on Sun Mar 27 2011

Dromoland Castle was more than we could have imagined. The customer service was excellent, the food was DELICIOUS. The grounds were gorgeous. The staff was amazing. The room service packs were a great addition to our stay. It was above and beyond any hotel. They indeed lived-up to and surpassed the 5 star rating. Our room was gorgeous. When we left in the morning after breakfast, we had forgotten something from our room, when we went back to get it, it had already had maid service. Aiden, the valet/bell-hop? was well versed in the history of the castle and very helpful to answer any questions. Room service was fast. Dinner and breakfast were delicious, and accomodating. Every aspect of Dromoland was perfect!

high class hotel at high class prices. Not worth staying for just one night. Need to stay longer to enjoy the amenities.

Kelly Donohoue on Wed Oct 27 2010

It was an honor and an pleasure to stay in a real castle. The staff were friendly and amazing especially Dara (waiter in the bar).

Laura French on Thu Oct 21 2010

Beds were not comfortable

Joann Zimmer on Mon Sep 27 2010

Just another beautiful place on the trip. Only spent a few hours.

Randy Miller on Mon Sep 13 2010

unbelievablly fantastic. Food was superb.

Clemente on Tue Aug 31 2010

Our waiter was in training...not good for the price of dinner. We came down right at 7am for breakfast as we had a plane to catch and that seemed to annoy the staff. Our room needed more than a small fan as it was so hot & still and the dining room was hot & still too.

Mrs Carol Zepfel on Wed Aug 11 2010

Very helpful staff, and great food. We were upgraded here too, great room with only one draw back, it had two beds instead of one... Not too big an issue though.

Rachel Shanahan on Thu Aug 5 2010

Will stay longer here, too.

Could not check in at the posted 1400 hours, had to wait for room. Felt rushed by the staff when first arrived to get out of the car and into the hotel. The shower was broken and could not turn off (it happened twice) turning the room into a steam bath. We stayed in the newest part of the accommodations, would have liked the older part. We loved the hotel and would stay there again. The Earl dining room was absolutely exceptional as was the Fig Room by the golf course.

Russ Mcnish on Thu Jun 17 2010

As with our experience at several of the other hotels. Dromoland was beseiged with holiday guests, a special antique show, a wedding, and a Rolls-Royce rally. Our late arrival did not help the matter. We were unable to partake of any of the Hotel's activities and the dining situation was difficult at best. We ended up having to eat in the bar with several smokers. Despite the difficulties, our accomodations were excellent and the staff coordinating the "set down" and the service for our departure were superb.

Frank Johnson on Thu Jun 17 2010

outstanding place to stay !!

Olin Hoover on Thu May 27 2010

wonderfull last night, dinning was exceptional

Gerry Fournier on Sat May 8 2010

Would be fantastic to have wifi in the rooms.

Steven Miller on Fri Apr 30 2010

We loved our stay in the castle on our final night. It was a great idea.

Phillip Torie on Sat Nov 14 2009

We really needed to stay two nights there to fully experience what they had to offer. Would have been nice to know I needed a jacket to attend dinner, I was coming from Africa so I was limited on what I could bring but could have brought one if known. Very high class and they upgraded my room automatically without me asking. Beautiful place but did not feel very comfortable there, very high society type people or at least folks who don't know how to talk about anything other than work and politics and not very friendly to strangers. The staff was wonderful. Nice place but least enjoyed by us.

Scott Hamlin on Wed Nov 11 2009

very beautiful

Debra Conklin on Tue Oct 27 2009

We had been told by upgrading we would be in a nicer room in the old original part of the castle. Although our room was nice (after asking to be moved since our first room had the window open and dead flies on the carpet floor and in the window sill) it was still in the new part.

Barbie Hunefeld on Mon Oct 19 2009

A fabulous experience....they upgraded us to a suite for no additional cost and took care of us in a five star manner. The food was excellent as well.

Jan Fogt on Thu Oct 8 2009

Very expensive but well worth it

Rajiv Jauhar on Mon Aug 24 2009

This facility relies heavily on its reputation. It is lacking in customer service and the rooms are shabby. They had worn and torn furniture in them. This hotel doesn't have a lift and basic modern amenities. It is overpriced for what you get.

Joshua Follick on Thu Aug 13 2009

Thanks in part to Sir Conor O'Brien, the staff made us both feel like we were coming home. It was a great experience.

William Obrien on Mon Jul 27 2009

Great place!

Mary Schick on Sat May 16 2009

Dromoland Castle is a wonderful place. We were offered an upgrade upon arrival for 25 pounds per person. We took the offer and were upgraded to a stateroom - a great enhancement to our stay. We have talked about returning to Dromoland Castle for a multi day stay and a vacation at the resort in its own sake.

David Werner on Mon Feb 23 2009

Everything was brilliant. The Hotel knew we were on our Honeymoon and gave us quite a few perks for free, as we are both newlyweds we weren't exactly rolling in the dough. The service I received from my contact at myguideireland was great, she gave brilliant service every step of the way and really made our honeymoon extra special. I am very very glad that she suggested Dromoland Castle for our stay as it was everything we could've hoped for in a Hotel.

The perfect ending to our dream vacation! -Danny Dunson

Danny Dunson on Mon Sep 29 2008

Again the castle and grounds were nice but getting there was not a breeze however this one was easier thanthe others due to it's location.

Randy Reardon on Wed Sep 24 2008

I lovd every minute here - wished we could have stayed longer!

Hillary Crabtree on Fri Jul 25 2008

beautiful

Mary Mccarthy on Thu Jul 24 2008

At check out waited over 30 minutes and 2 phone calls before we pulled our 50 lb. bags up and down about fifteen steps before getting to the lobby. Not what I think of as a 5 star hotel.

Eliza Hall on Sun Jun 8 2008

Beautiful Castle and great friendly bartenders. Wish we could have spent more time there.

Debra And Riley Parker on Tue Jun 3 2008

Love that we had internet with the TV in our room, to check our emails.

Mrs Kathy Thierfeldt on Tue Apr 22 2008

The best. Had we known more about this hotel, it might have been a choice for a longer visit. The staff, accommodations etc. were all far beyond what we thought we would get.

Don Ferguson on Tue Apr 22 2008

We took my wife's parents to Dromoland as an anniversary present & they were blown away. Like Ashford it is a world-class hotel...and the added bonus is a great golf course which is a serious test of skill. We had dinner in the hotel on the Saturday night - Fantastic. It is a pricey but it is worth it as a really special treat.

Paul Mcconologue on Fri Apr 18 2008

The staff at Dromoland Castle provided us with an upgrade when they learned it was our honeymoon. They gave us a lovely card, provided us with roses in our room amd made us feel as if we were the only guests to which they had to cater. It was an exceptional experience!

Denise Murphy on Tue Sep 18 2007

Beautiful.

Terry Egan on Sun Aug 12 2007

As previously mentioned, this hotel was exceptional and all enjoyed the hotel, rooms and service. The facilities for sauna, steam, pool and spa were not in or adjacent to the Cstle but they did provide jitney service to and from the ool area and the proshop. Three of the rooms here had interior/courtyard views rather than external views that I would have expected when we set up the trip!! However, the triple was on the top floor of the newer building and was exceptional. If it were just Ruth and I we certainly would have requested a different room and having stayed at this hotel also in '98 we were disappointed in the location of the three rooms. And since I do nnot know what the payment was on a hotel by hotel basis I can't relate to anything relative to value here. A couple of the hotels, however did identify my cost per person....ie. Adare Manor, so I knew what those rooms cost. Also Aston. Now that I am back it would certainly be interesting to know what the costs were and whehter there was some cost for breakfast different than the posted full breakfast. A couple times members of the group did not eat or limited their intake to cereal and juice. This hotel was also exceptional service for dinner, reception and consierge. the on-duty consierge showed us to our rooms and was also the gal that on checkout morning called Ballynahinch for me to tell about lost items.

Richard Lockwood on Mon Jul 2 2007

The most beautiful castle!!! What a lovely way to spend our last evening in Ireland. I recommend archery as an activity during the day. It was quick, but really fun.

Alexandra Sherman on Wed Jun 6 2007

I enjoyed this stay of course, but it's a little to commerical for me.

Daniel Gore on Thu May 17 2007

We had a wonderful start to our honeymoon here, and will always treasure the memories.

Pamela Duggan on Fri Mar 2 2007

Dromland Castle was the highlight of our honymoon. If we ever get a chance to go back Dromoland Castle will be the place we will stay. It was Incridable, unforgettable.

Crystal Oagles on Sat Nov 11 2006

We found Dromoland to be exquisite.

Becky Stalter on Thu Jun 22 2006

beautiful from outside, but it was not what I had expected from inside, no big entrance hall, narrow hallways, etc.

Claudia Pieper on Wed Mar 1 2006

Luxurious deluxe rooms in the castle, standard rooms in more modern wing. Five star all the way.

Paul O'Brien on Thu Feb 23 2006

A real castle !! Rooms are very spacious and very well equiped. Ideal for honey moon but very expensive for the frenchmarket.

Carole Razet on Thu Feb 23 2006

A beautiful castle with a nice view at the lake. You feel like a king or a queen there.

Amela Cardaklija on Wed Feb 22 2006

They were extremely accomadating. We arrived early to check in, we had a long flight and were honeymooners and needed to rest. They allowed us to check in early to get some rest and upgraded us because we were on our honeymoon. It was wonderful.

Erin Daniels on Mon Oct 17 2005

Wish we could have stayed longer

Robert Neville on Thu Aug 11 2005

most beautiful place I have ever stayed in

Patrick Quilty on Tue Jul 12 2005

Food, though very good, was not quite as good as expected. The 1st night we ate in the informal restaurant and the 1st part of the meal was excellent but then the waitress basically disappeared and we had to get the barman to track her down so we could get our bill. He got it but she never did reappear.
