One of the major towns of County Tyrone , Dungannon has much to be proud of. The political, economic and cultural centre of the county, the town is widely recognised as an attractive shopping and social location also. The heritage of Dungannon is linked inextricably with the textile industry and, as home of the much admired Tyrone Cystal, it has really been put upon the map. The art of crystal making in the county can trace its beginnings back 200 years to a site near Dungannon. Today Tyrone Crystal carries on that tradition in a modern factory at Killybrackey. Conducted tours are available.
In addition to the heritage of the town, Dungannon also features an eclectic mix of architecture, with buildings dating from an interesting range of different periods. There is not a distinctive Plantation look to the town. St Anne's Church of Ireland presents the visitor an imposing site perched on the hill.
Dungannon has a great tradition for sporting achievements. It is home to one of Ireland's finest rugby clubs , Dungannon RFC which is based at Stevenson Park in the town. The club play in the First Division of the All Ireland League and provide both Ulster and Ireland with several key players. Darren Clarke, one of the world's top golfers, also hails from the town as does snooker's Denis Taylor.
