Dunmanway

DumanwayDunmanway is located at the geographical centre of West Cork

Today, Dunmanway is best known as the Birthplace of Sam Maguire, the prominent republican for whom today's most senior Gaelic Football trophy is named.

Dunmanway is an attractive market town with a proud recent history in the national tidy towns competition having achieved the honour of tidiest town in Ireland in 1982.

It is a planned 17th century town built around two triangular centre's that still exist today and is home to the historic annual Ballabuidhe Races & Horse Fair that is still in early August every year.

Dunmanway shot again to national prominence in June 2009 when it was announced that the world famous English Soccer Club, Liverpool FC, had agreed to visit the town to play the local club Dunmanway town FC at the town’s Maria Immaculata Community College on August 6th 2009 at 2pm.

"Sorry this is so late but I just wanted to say Thank you so much for planning such a wonderful trip! We enjoyed every aspect of it. I just wanted to let you know that the tax on the Bed & Breakfast's was a Dublin tax." -- Audrey
