Guest Reviews of Fairview Guesthouse

Offsite carparking marks the facilities down.

On balance we didn't like a town centre location as much as country/coast location

Brian Livesey on Tue Sep 16 2008

Location was great ... beds were too soft ... hospitality was lacking ... food was good

Kathleen Hogan on Tue Aug 26 2008

This was a great location to tour, as the Ring of Kerry and the Dingle Peninsula were each a short drive away. The town of Killarney provided many options for dining so we chose to eat outside the hotel. Our only concern with this hotel was that the kitchen for the hostel next door to hotel was right outside our window and the smells and noises from cooking and the noise of washing up continued well past 11:00 PM yet the Fairview Hotel had a strict no noise policy between 8PM and 8AM. The room was comfortable.

Fiona Harrower on Sun Aug 10 2008

I was surprised by this hotel as the other hotels had been exceptional. It was a bit cramped and the beds not comfortable. The owner was nice as can be, but I would not stay here again.

Hillary Crabtree on Fri Jul 25 2008

The location is very central Kilarney, and needs to be made clear to the customer. We moved our second night because of Friday night noise on the street outside our room at the front of the guesthouse. James (Mngr.) was very helpfull and accommodated us wonderfully. Dinner at the guesthouse was brilliant and great value AND after 9:30! The early eating times are a hazoured if you're not aware before hand. We were very pleased with our experience at the Fairview.

NICE HOTEL LOVELY ROOM BUT VIEW FROM ROOM LOOKED OUT ON SOME SORT OF SCRAP YARD, OR BACK YARD OF SHOPS, DISAPPOINTED HOTEL KEPT SAME MENU ALL WEEK, AS MENU WAS OK BUT DIDN'T WANT IT FOR TWO NIGHTS RUNNING,AND VERY SMALL DINING AREA AND HAD TO WAIT FOR A TABLE FOR BREAKFAST. BUT STILL A PLEASANT PLACE TO STAY.

Colin Jarrett on Tue Jul 8 2008

We would to thank Rosie Dent for arranging this holiday which we enjoyed very much and would like to go again as it was 45 years since we last went to Killarney on honeymoon - lots have changed but Irish friendliness the same - Francis

Francis Wong on Thu Jun 26 2008

We upgraded to an executive room. The food was very good. The location was a bit noisy particularly as it was the week-end. No parking at guest house, but there was a car park at the top of road.

Mrs Margaret Morgan on Thu Jun 26 2008

Car parking a slight problem, but acceptable in the circumstances - needs better clarification of operational requirements (i.e. methods of payment/ticketing) preferably in advance of arrival.

Don Hartley on Thu Jun 19 2008

Great locatons and excellent food. We upgraded to a jacuzzi room and enjoyed the hotel facility very much.

Mary Mckinlay on Sun Jun 1 2008

Great Place

Donald Harworth on Fri May 30 2008

A tastefully decorated and well appointed Hotel, perfectly situated.

Mr Chris Fairchild on Wed May 28 2008

Very nice place and location was good. We did not eat in the restaurant a little too "stuffy" for us.

Marianne Dewes on Mon May 19 2008

Good central location. We upgraded to an Executive room, without seeing room provided and found the whole place very good. Food and service exceptional.

Ms Joyce Hall on Mon Apr 28 2008

For all the above reasons, this is a great place to stay. It may be small, but it's packed with charm and comfort. I especially appreciated the wood floors and the lovely antique furniture. We were treated really well, thank you very much to the proprietor. Dinner was fabulous - my first "boxty" - YUM! Being able to walk to around town and be so close to our room was a real plus. We had a great time here!

Cecilia Salanger on Tue Apr 22 2008

Room was gorgeous, didn't have dinner but only breakfast - hospitality a little abrupt on arrival. No bar facility only the restaurant. Hairdryer didn't work in the hotel and was told it would be 30 mins to get the maintenance man, then told he didn't work saturdays but eventually given another room to use to use the hair dryer. Very nice guest house, wonderfully furnished

Ms Ali Bampton on Tue Apr 22 2008

We arrived at this hotel on Sunday afternoon after 5pm, we checked in and went up to our room, the room was not ready for us, so we had to leave our bags and kill some time. We only ate breakfast at this hotel, which was okay. Our room overlooked the rear of other properties where there was building work been undertaken, this work started before 8am on Monday and Tuesday morning.

Ms Carol Gill on Tue Apr 22 2008

Absolutely delightful place to stay, superb restaurant and in an unbeatable location.

Ms Carla Fairweather on Tue Apr 1 2008

excellent breakfast service, just too crowded with cues for breakfast. Bad room insulation.

Janet Thon on Tue Apr 1 2008

Arrived at 2.45 pm, having dragged cases from car park down the road. Rang bell and waited - eventually a member of staff appeared and stated that Michael had told her to tell us to go away and come back at 3.30. Check in time on our documents was 2 pm. Asked if we could leave luggage and advised we could. On leaving Michael appeared and said we might as well check in but that you should not have told us we could check in at 2pm as it was definitely 3.30. He then offered to upgrade our room for 40 Euros which we declined. I have to say we most defintely did not receive a warm welcome. Room cold and when I rang down to enquire about heating told heating on at 6pm and he hung up! Room itself good apart from uncomfortable bed and overlooked a builders yard at rear of building. Felt we did not get one of the better rooms in this establishment. Evening menu displayed outside and in info in room, but when I asked if we could book an evening meal was told no meals being served until the season started. Breakfast until 10 am according to room info and display in foyer but advised by Michael that breakfast finished at 9.30. The one good thing was that the breakfast was the best one of the entire holiday, such a shame that such poor customer service. I do not know what you paid for this establishment but whatever it was I can only rate the value as fair due to above.

Wonderful! Our absolute favorite place! I strongly suggest folks stay here. Food was wonderful in their restaurant, too.

Marie Hurt on Thu Jan 3 2008

The Fairview was wonderful. The only complaint I have is that when I made the reservation I indicated that the woman we were traveling with was handicapped and she needed a scooter to "walk". When we checked in James said if he had known he would have given us the handicapped room. He did manage to move them to a room that had been somewhat modified to accommodate a handicapped person. The hotel was absolutely beautiful.

Joan Mcclung on Mon Oct 15 2007

Beautiful guesthouse, surprisingly quiet considering it's location

Bernard Brice on Tue Oct 9 2007

Although the bathroom was appointed with a very modern and inviting tub/jacuzzi, the water quality was so poor that I questioned the safety even of showering in it. My guess is that the greenish/brown color of the water may be attributed to old city pipes or old plumbing.

Steve Gavigan on Mon Oct 1 2007

The hotel was wonderful we could not fault anything.

Mrs Pamela Watson on Wed Sep 26 2007

For a traveler using a wheelchair, the two issues were the toilet which was too high in the accessible room bathroom and the elevator was rather "tight" to enter and exit. The bathroom sink was somewhat difficult to use with a wheelchair. There is an undercasing under the sink that prevents a wheelchair from getting too close. This is a common issue in every hotel that I stayed in. Should consider raising sink and removing undercasing placing pipes close to wall. Wheelchair room bathroom door should open outinstead of in for batter access. Another common issue at all hotels I stayed in. For some reason, they did not supply facecloths to any of our rooms and were limited on them when requested. The location was excellent and the room and bedding was very clean and comfortable. Overall, very nice and perfect location.

Tim Donovan on Tue Jul 10 2007

Very noisy location. WE thought our room would be a little bigger. Would go on the outskirts of Killarny next time

Susan Connolly on Tue Jul 3 2007

Die Parksituation war unklar. Es muss darauf hingewiesen werden, dass kein hoteleigener Parkplatz vorhanden ist und wie die Bezahlung auf dem öffentlichen Parkplatz geregelt ist.

Albert Von Rockenthien on Wed Jun 13 2007

Great location. We were within walking distance of everything we wanted.

Gaston Rodrigue on Mon Jun 4 2007

The location for was great - well within walking distance of everything and driving distance of most places we wanted to visit. Our room was spacious and very nice, but the hot water was luke warm (at best) and the manager on duty behaved as if "that's just the way it is" - then offered to let us shower in another room and come back to our room when we were done. It was a bit odd. But overall, our stay was pleasant and enjoyable.

Angela Schardan on Thu May 17 2007

Very good option for Killarney, having a bar would be nice, but that is another issue. No problem putting a Guest into this property

Sean Kelly on Thu Dec 14 2006

lovely guesthouse in the heart of kilarney town, close to all aminities, very modern and friendly with a cosy atmosphere.

Elaine Fitzpatrick on Wed Dec 13 2006

Too close to downtown and on the expensive side for what you got.

Richard Madigan on Sun Oct 8 2006

Center city is a problem... no parking! Desk staff was not very welcoming. Our two rooms faced the kitchen corridor and were very noisy. When we aksed for local restaurant recommendations the desk said "our hotel restaurant is the only one we can recommend." Oh, really?

Jim Cameron on Tue Aug 15 2006

Great town centre location. Modern well equipped rooms. Warm welcome.

Paul O'Brien on Thu Feb 23 2006

A very good quality. Well equiped but noisy (works outside and inside). Warm welcome. Perhaps too much modern for the french guests

Carole Razet on Thu Feb 23 2006

This hotel is located at the center of Killarney with an welcoming an friendly atmosphere.

Amela Cardaklija on Wed Feb 22 2006

modern although it is not over the top with minimalistic features. although by the city centre it is extremely quiet and away from the noise. free overnight parking. close to bus station- does not restrict people. all bedrooms spacious and decorated to absolute perfection. they too are decorated differently with contemporary and older pieces.

Jenna Burton on Tue Nov 29 2005

Loved it loved it. Everything about this guest house would make me go back, the staff were very friendly and had a well of knowledge about the area, the contemporary style i loved with each room just differing a littel bit, the underground heating system was a big plus for those cold irish morning, the guesthouse was situated in the town centre but the double double glazing windows meant that not a thing from the busy streets outside could be heard.
