Picture a deep quiet valley. A lake at your feet, a mountain
behind you, a welcome ahead of you. The Lough Inagh Lodge is set snugly in the aptly named Recess of Connemara. The charming
country retreat is a paradise for anglers. Originally a
fishing lodge of the Berridge family, the hotel echoes that tradition offering
game fishing on the beautiful Lough Inagh Fishery.
Inagh provides an abundance of wild, hard fighting salmon and
sea trout, sparkling clear water, heathery banks, crisp clean air and
spectacular scenery. The Fishery comprises two outstanding loughs, Inagh and
Derryclare and a tumbling river which is located at the top of the Ballynahinch
system in the heart of Connemara.
Spring Salmon Fishing commences in March and peaks during the
month of May with average weights of around 5 kg and the occasional fish up to 9
kg. Grilse, which reach the lakes in early June, are caught from boats and from
the river bank until the season closes at the end of September. Sea trout
constitute the great part of the summer activity right up to close of the season
in September.
The seven beats of Lough Inagh and Derryclare Fishery include
Lough Inagh, 7 km long and 1 km wide with a number of wooded islands and Corloo,
a favourite location, is an outflow from Lough Inagh with excellent sea trout
fishing from the bank and a perfect salmon lie in high water.
A day spent in the bracing Connemara air is the perfect prelude
to the pleasures of Lough Inagh's excellent table, relaxing bar, sitting room,
and its cosy library, honouring many of Ireland's most famous literary figures.
Lough Inagh peace - it's a way of life.
