When planning your trip you should take into careful consideration where in Ireland you would like to arrive and what airport you would like to depart Ireland from.
Ireland has 5 international airports:
Dublin Airport - on the east coast, Cork Airport - on the South coast, Shannon Airport - on the west coast - Knock Airport in the Northwest and Belfast Airport in the North East.
It is possible to fly in to one area and out of another so you don't have to retrace your steps and can see as much of this beautiful country as possible.
Flying to Ireland from Canada
Air Canada operate a daily Non-stop flight beween Dublin and Toronto.
FlyGlobespan also operate direct weekly services from Toronto to both Dublin Airport and Belfast International.
The Belfast Route runs on a Sunday and the Dublin route runs on a Thursday.
If you require more flexibility in your travel dates then you will need to make a connection either in Europe or in the USA.
The following options are available as of Summer 2009:
- Connect in Philadelphia with USAirways for flights to Dublin or Shannon
- Connect in NYC-JFK with Delta or Aer-Lingus for flights to Dublin or Shannon
- Connect in Newark with Continental for flights to Dublin, Shannon or Belfast
- Connect in Frankfurt, Germany with Lufthansa for access to Dublin or Belfast
- Connect in London-Heathrow for flights to Dublin, Shannon, Cork or Belfast
- Connect in Amsterdam-Schipol for flights to Dublin or Cork Airport
- Connect in Paris-CDG for flights to Dublin, Cork or Shannon

It is more convenient for North American Guests to make connections in Europe as luggage can be checked right through to final destination when transitting the european airport on the return journey. Return connections made in the USA require luggage to be collected and cleared through US Customs when making a connection at a US airport from an international flight.
The exception to this is that from July 2009 flights originating in Shannon (excluding Aer Lingus) have full US customs clearance prior to departure and will be treated as domestic arrivals at US airports from a customs viewpoint.
