Gregans Castle

The Burren is one of Ireland's surprises for the discerning traveller. A special area of limestone mountain scenery, with a distinctive beauty and holding a wealth of treasure for the botanist and explorer of historic ruins.

In the midst of this wilderness lies Gregans Castle Hotel, at the foot of the Corkscrew Hill, with breathtaking views over the Burren and Galway Bay. Simon Haden and Frederieke McMurray own and manage this oasis, where hospitality, good food, comfort and peace and quiet are the themes.

Each Bedroom and Suite is individually and exquisitely decorated in a relaxing country house style. There are various categories of rooms to choose from, all with nice views of the surrounding area or with their own private gardens.

From the extensive dinner menu, there is a good choice of fresh local foods, carefully prepared by Chef Mickael Viljanen and his team. All ingredients are carefully select and organic Burren lamb and beef are specialities, as is locally caught fish from the Atlantic Ocean. The ever expanding and extensive wine list features wines from every continent and includes a large selection of organic and bio-dynamic wines. Tables are automatically reserved for all hotel guests.

On many summer evenings, the view from the windows of the elegant hotel lounge is of a most unusual and beautiful light show, caused by the rays of the setting sun travelling across Galway Bay and striking the grey limestone mountains.

Lahinch Golf Club and The Cliffs of Moher are nearby. Shannon Airport is just over an hour's drive away. The Burren is an excellent location for hiking and biking.

See what some of our Guests had to say about this Hotel

This place is absolutely gorgeous! My husband wants to come back here the most. We loved the quiet elegance and the attention to detail. We could have stayed here at least 2 more nights. We loved the drive to the cliffs of Moher and town of Doolin, not to mention the golf course on the ocean. We even had a fine selection of music to listen to on our Bose system. Wow! The breakfast was fabulous and the room just lovely. (The only setback, was a funny smell in the room - no problem - we openened the windows and aired it out and it was fine.)

Remote but a short cab ride to Ballyvaughan. Perfect for those seeking a quiet getaway. Beautiful landscaping and beautiful views. Rooms were exquisite.
