Guided Tour September

IRELAND & THE NORTH TOUR

Day 1, Sept. 12, Wednesday - Departure
Your adventure begins as you board your flight or flights to Dublin . Your overnight Atlantic flight normally includes dinner and breakfast.

Day 2, Sept. 13, Thursday - Dublin Arrival
Our coach will make one mid-morning pick up at Dublin Airport . Late arrivals may take taxi or shuttle services to our hotel. Ed & Joan Hogan and a myguide Ireland representative will host a welcome tea at the Stephens Green Hotel . Enjoy an early afternoon bus tour of Dublin followed by a free afternoon to explore the scenic Dublin City Centre. Evening dinner at our hotel.

Day 3, Sept. 14, Friday - Glasnevin Cemetery, the Book of Kells, and Dublin
We begin our day with a full Irish breakfast at our hotel. Then we depart on a morning tour of historic Glasnevin Cemetery. In the early afternoon we visit the Book of Kells at Trinity College , with the rest of the day free. You may wish to enjoy traditional Irish music at one of the many Dublin pubs. Overnight again at the Stephens Green Hotel.

Day 4, Sept. 15, Saturday - Hill of Tara, Newgrange, and Monasterboice
We leave Dublin and travel north to the Hill of Tara . Then on to the passage tomb museum at Newgrange and pending availability. A visit to the passage tomb at Knowthy. Then its on to Monasterboice, site of some of Ireland's finest high crosses. Tonight we stay at Dundalk's Park Inn. Dinner at our hotel.

Day 5, Sept. 16, Sun. Armagh, Downpatrick, and Belfast
We begin our day in Armagh the ecclesiastical center of Ireland. Sunday church service is available at the two national cathedrals in Armagh. We will tour the Trian Visitor Centre then continue north to Downpatrick and St. Patrick's gravesite. From there we journey on to our dinner and overnight at the La Mon Hotel in Belfast.

Day 6, Sept. 17, Mon. Belfast
We enjoy Northern Ireland 's largest city, with visits to the Ulster Transportation Museum, and a locally guided tour of the city. Dinner at the La Mon Hotel. Evening program featuring a local historian on the Troubles.

Day 7, Sept 18, Tues. The Giants Causeway and Derry
We journey north today to the spectacular Giant's Causeway , a massive basalt example of columnar joining resulting from volcanic actions. Legend has it that the causeway is actually a path built by the giant, Finn McCool, to visit his lady love of Scotland. From there, we journey on to the historic walled city of Londonderry / Derry . Our hotel and dinner tonight is the Derry City Hotel .

Day 8, Sept. 19, Wed. Londonderry and the Ulster Folk Park
Put on your walking shoes today. We begin with a morning tour of 1450 year old Londonderry, the UK's only complete walled city. From there we travel to the fascinating Ulster American Folk Park. Then we head west returning to the Republic of Ireland and the Mill Park Hotel in Donegal , our home for two nights. After dinner at our hotel, you may enjoy traditional music sessions in one or more of Donegal's noted pubs.

Day 9, Sept. 20, Thurs. Donegal and Belleek
Today is yours to enjoy as you wish. For those interested, our coach will take you on a morning drive along the scenic Donegal coast to the Belleek Pottery Factory. Others may wish to enjoy a stroll around the City Centre, visit museums, shop, or simply relax and enjoy the beauty of the area. Dinner on your own tonight. We'll enjoy our second evening at the Mill Park Hotel.

Day 10, Sept. 21 Fri. Strokestown and Athlone
We travel south along coastal Donegal through Sligo and on to the the Midlands where we will visit Strokestown Park House and the Famine Museum. Strokestown is an 18th Century mansion faithfully preserved. The grounds also include a 4 acre walled garden and the noted Famine Museum. Then its on to the Shannon River area for overnight and dinner at the Radisson Hotel in Athlone . Enjoy traditional music in Athlone's many pubs.

Day 11, Sept. 22 Sat. Clonmacnoise and Dublin
Leaving Athlone, our tour heads south through the Shannon River Valley for a tour of the Crossroads of Ireland the famous Clonmacnoise medieval monastery . From there we journey on to Dublin where our late afternoon is free, followed by our farewell dinner and show a Dublin cabaret. Our last evening is once again at Stephens Green Hotel, where our journey began.

Day 12, Sept. 23, Sun. Return Home
Slán abhaile. Our coach will make a morning trip to the Dublin Airport to assist you in your journey home. For those who wish to depart on their own schedule, taxi service is available.
