Kilkea cancelled our reservation before we arrived, and we, instead, received a different manor to stay in, Brooklodge, in McCreddin Village which was very comfortable.

It was exciting to stay in a real castle. All my friends are impressed.

This was a good location as there were many towns and attractions in the surrounding area. The room was very comfortable and we enjoyed having time to use the pool and health centre facilities. There was fine dining in the restaurant which was very good and the Pub menu provided casual dining at the end of a busy day. We missed the turn to the hotel as there was no signage coming from the west. With a bit of luck we noticed the signage on our second pass of the hotel as we we arrived from the direction of Dublin. The sign for the hotel was difficult to see as it is posted on a wall outside the entranceway and was covered over with foliage so we almost missed it the second time as well. The hotel might want to consider posting signs for visitors arriving from the west of the country as not everyone arrives from Dublin.

The desk person was most helpful. The room was excellent. Food at the golf club house was very good. Enjoyed the stay.

I was so impressed with everything about Kilkea Castle. It was out of the way but still close to Dublin airport. It was gorgeous and mysterious! The long driveway made you wait in anticipation to see this huge castle standing tall amongst the trees. The staff were great and very willing to answer any questions and to accomodate. We booked a room inside the castle and when we arrived were pleasantly surprised they upgraded us to the honeymoon suite which was on the top floor of the castle and was beautiful with a view of the gardens!It could not have been any better than that being from Florida this was the first castle I had ever been in and was so in awe of the place! You could feel the history walking the hallways. If you are interested in ghost stories go talk to the bartenders they have been there since the beginning of the remodel and really had some interesting tales. Most of the employees have been there for quite some time as well. Which gave it a more personal touch. I wish we could have stayed longer. Would highly reccomend staying there and would definately stay again if back in Ireland.

This being our first introduction to Ireland, we were in awe. What a treat! This castle was rustic on the outside and cozy on the inside, without taking away from the original details like the windows in the bathroom. The grounds and the ruins, wow! I hope they never change anything. We wish we had time to stay and golf. We just loved it! Thanks for the experience.

We liked the "evil eye" and "the monkey" stone craving. It had squeeky floors that made it feel like it was the oldest castle. It was fun being there.

Again, you learn things when you travel in a foreign country. The accommodation was lovely, but I did not expect that dinner would cost $50 plus a 17% gratuity per person. We chose to eat soup and sandwiches in the bar, which turned out to again be lovely for our family as we were very relaxed and able to visit and it only cost $94 American dollars for all of us. Our breakfast was exceptional at this hotel and it was fun to be served in our rooms. This was again another favorite for our girls. The pool facilities were very nice and fun. We were a little disappointed that we were not able to golf as it was a holiday and only open to members. This may have been something that would be nice to know prior to booking or staying at a place such as this. It was a little difficult to find, but once there a lovely experience. We did have a GPS system which really helped us as I don't know if we would have located any of these places otherwise.

Kilkea Castle is a great jumping point into Dublin, or a good starting point when you leave Dublin. It was not far from major highways. It would probably be a good idea to post a sign in Castledermont directing travelers on where to go. We had a two-hour meal, four course meal that I will never forget. Yes, it was outrageously expensive; however, it was worth it. We had an expensive meal in Dingle at the Chart House that was not worth it. We had an expensive meal at Out of the Blue in Dingle that was worth it. So objectively speaking, spluring at Kilkea Castle was well worth the meal. You feel like royalty as you walk the grounds, and I wish we could have had more time to spend engaging in archery and horseback riding. The bedrooms were filled with antiques. The bathrooms were elegant. There was a great attention to detail. The one weak area was their weight room. The equipment was outdated, but not as old as the castle. The pool and hot tub had some dirt that should have been cleaned. However, the sauna and steam room were nice and accessible. I would certainly recommend this castle to fellow travelers. One suggestion I would have is to offer walking tours of the grounds, or have a resident castle historian on the grounds. The castle dates back to 1180, and the owners of the castle still rent land, only because they acquired that land through force of the Anglo-Norman invasion. Can you say the ancestors of William the Conqueror?

Not sure re: rates to determine value for money. Thought the property was quite nice but seemed to be a slight notch below what I was expecting.

beautiful grounds..we liked that much of the original remained...should have a real working fireplace in the bar..we enjoyed it very much. Friendly staff.

This was a very welcome end to our holiday and we thoroughly enjoyed the chance to relax before flying home. Sadly the food was not as good as the surroundings, I think the chef was trying to be too ambitious and there were too many flavours in the dishes, also the scrambled egg was not light & fluffy as advertised.

This is truly a unique place, that everyone should see.

Within 1 to 1.5 hours of Dublin airport so ideal for first or last nights stay. Country location so would have to drive to local village. Authentic castle so rooms are different sizes and some bathrooms quite small. Has own golf course and can organise other activities. Nice warm feeling.

genuine and origional. decor a bit dissapointing (dark). not too far a distance from dublin. standard room spacious ( a bit more modern due to being in the courtyard). many prefer to stay in castle so would recommend a upgraded room. leisuare facilities good- smell of chlorine on corridors. hospitality average

Stepping back in time as you drive up the drive way. the entire orginial building still stands and is in full use as a hotel. the hotel has excellent grounds with very good facilities for both outdoor and in doors in the leisure centre

Not quite as cool as Glin Castle but still an Amazing experience.

so much fun, never enough time

The staff in general were not very friendly or outgoing. The service in the dining room was not what is expected in a gourmet room that cost us $150 for dinner for two. It was very, very slow and the staff was not attentive at all; however, the food was excellent. We dined in the bar the second evening we were there and that was even worse for service.
