Kiltimagh

header.jpgKiltimagh is an attractive town in the heart of county of Mayo and is a favourite with visitors. This is for a variety of reasons: for its beautiful 19th century artisan village theme evident in the shop facades and the Market Square, as well as for the many wonderful attractions and amenities it offers to visitors.

The town's name comes from that of an ancient Chieftain "Mahgu" whose grave is reputed to be located on one of the many hills above the village( Sliabh Cairn ). The old Irish name is "Coillte Maghach" which means the "Wood of Maghu".

Kiltimagh offers a wide selection of excellent accommodation as well as angling facilities, a pitch and putt course, trekking tours, museums, a sculpture park, the Venture Fun Park, cosy pubs, restaurants and much more.

The town hosts two festivals every year - St. Patrick's Week which is a 7-day celebration of Irish tradition and culture, and An Beal Oscailte ( The Open Mouth ) which celebrates the traditional arts of storytelling, music, dance and pageantry. This takes place during the last weekend in July. However most pubs have live traditional music at weekends and some during the week for the duration of the summer.

"Sorry this is so late but I just wanted to say Thank you so much for planning such a wonderful trip! We enjoyed every aspect of it. I just wanted to let you know that the tax on the Bed & Breakfast's was a Dublin tax." -- Audrey
