Knockranny House Hotel & Spa

Overlooking the rugged peak of Croagh Patrick and the picturesque sight of Westport and Clew Bay, Knockranny House Hotel & Spa offers unparalleled views together with luxury accommodation and warm hospitality.

Situated just outside the pretty heritage town of Westport in County Mayo, Knockranny House Hotel & Spa is a Victorian styled hotel offering sophisticated elegance alongside modern comforts. From the roaring fireplace in the hugely spacious lobby, the havens of peace and quiet of the drawing room and lounge, to the graceful old word furnishings and attentive staff, Knockranny extols the great Irish traditions of comfort, charm and hospitality.

Knockranny House has an excellent selection of spacious and well-appointed bedrooms. Soft restful colours blend with tasteful furnishings in harmonious tranquil rooms equipped with all the necessary comforts and facilities. Deluxe rooms and suits have the added luxuries of king sized and four poster beds, and spa baths.

Embodying the complete destination spa experience, Spa Salveo encompasses a therapeutic vitality pool with hydrotherapy massage stations, an expansive thermal spa suite, various pre and post treatment relaxation areas, a technologically advanced fitness suite and twelve spacious treatment rooms. Residents over 18 years have complimentary use of Spa Salveo's vitality pool, thermal and fitness suites.

The hotel's La Fougere Restaurant is renowned for its superb cuisine and fine selection of wines. Modern Irish cuisine is blended with an array of international influences, drawing from fresh local produce, the restaurant's own organic herb garden and local salmon smoked on site. While outside the restaurant are fabulous panoramas of Clew Bay with its famed 365 islands and towering Croagh Patrick, Ireland's holiest of mountains.

The Brehon Bar at Knockranny is a characterful oak panelled bar, perfect for relaxing beside the open fire with a smooth pint while reading the newspaper or chatting over a few drinks in the bar's warm atmosphere.

In the area surrounding Knockranny House Hotel & Spa there are lots to explore, from the charming town of Westport and the tranquillity of Clew Bay, to the untouched countryside of Mayo or even a walk along the Pilgrims Trail, 765m to the summit of Croagh Patrick, where St Patrick reputedly banished the snakes from Ireland.

Although our room was on the lower floor, it lacked any view the rest of the hotel was very elegant. The food in the pub was adequatge for our tastes and the people were very accommodating.

More luxurious than we expected or wanted. Prices in restaurant much too high. Second night we ate elsewhere.

Asked if we could stay in the new section and were told we would have to pay for that upgrade. Room was fine, but looked a bit worn. The front desk called a taxi for us and that was appreciated. The lobby and dining facilities were beautiful and the view from our window table at breakfast was lovely.

If we go to Westport again, we hope we can stay at the Knockranny House Hotel & Spa

Definately not one to visit with children! The only thing the reception staff were interesed in was getting us to eat in the restaurant. There was only a set menu (which was extremely expensive) and very fancy. It wasn't until I asked that we were grudgingly offered a childrens menu. This hotel is trying far to hard to be very upmarket! Also we were not allowed to use the spa facilities (pool) as this is for over 18's only - this was not made clear in any information received. The hotel is also a long way out of town, not within walking distance.

Very relaxing and enjoyable stay.

Would be nice to see hotel when construction is done. Spa and recreation facilities are top notch, restaurant and bar facilties look very good, and the conference facilties (while not necessarily of interest to us) seem to be of a high standard. One drawback is hotel seems to be a bit of a maze at the moment. Perhaps will be more simplified when contruction is done.

"Sorry this is so late but I just wanted to say Thank you so much for planning such a wonderful trip! We enjoyed every aspect of it. I just wanted to let you know that the tax on the Bed & Breakfast's was a Dublin tax." -- Audrey
