Lake Hotel

Located by the shores of the famous Lakes of Killarney within the heart of the Killarney National Park , the Lake Hotel is an family run establishment in one of the most beautiful settings in Ireland.

Since 1820, the Lake Hotel has occupied arguably one of the best locations in Ireland . Even before this time, the MacCarthy Mor Chieftains, chose this spot to build the castle whose 12th Century ruins are within the hotel's grounds. And when Queen Victoria of Britain visited Killarney in 1861, she was entertained here by the tranquil waters of the lake with the foreboding peaks of the Macgillycuddy Reeks towering in the distance. If you're lucky you may even see some of the wild deer roaming onto the grounds from the National Park.

The Lake Hotel combines old world charm with modern facilities. Friendly staff and hosts offer the kind of Irish hospitality that the country is famous for, while the hotel retains much of its original character. The reception area is attractively set and opens out to an elegant lounge of cosy sofas laid out in front of a blazing log fire.

The Lake Hotel offers a range of bedrooms including Woodland view rooms, superior Lakeview rooms with jacuzzi and balcony. Deluxe Lakeside rooms with jacuzzi, balcony, refridgerator, and fourposter beds or fireplace and master deluxe rooms with jacuzzi and balcony.

Overlooking the lakes, the Castlelough Restaurant has a relaxed but refined atmosphere. The extensive menu mixes traditional Irish dishes with modern continental cuisine and uses fresh local produce. Less formal dining is available in the Lakeside Bistro which is adjacent to the bar which also host regular live traditional music nights.

The Lake Hotel's leisure facilities include a fabulous Canadian style outdoor hot tub and a small fitness centre with gym, sauna and steam room

We had 5 rooms for a family group. Some rooms were larger and nicer than others. Beautiful setting. We had a balcony/patio that looked over the lake. Had Irish music in the bar that night which was very nice.

Our room was small, smelly, and directly above the bar. Outside our window was the smoking area. I had to choose between sweating in the room, or choking on the smoke. I fell asleep every night at 1 am after the bar closed because of the noise and smell. Loved the location and food.

Naturally the location was superb for visiting the Ring of kerry and the Dingle peninsula. Our room was great and it was an interesting Victorian Hotel. It was a bit too busy with many young children. We had one dinner there and it was very average. The breakfast was o.k.

Nice room with a beautiful view and nice bathroom . Room got warm, but we couldn't open the window at night because the outdoor flood light above our window attracted bugs and the windows had no screens. Also, the bed was too firm and the pillows were flat. Dining room was beautiful and food was good.

One of our favorite stops. Great environment and food. Outstanding staff. Great interaction with "Ben" one of the servers in the lounge area. Meals were excellent. Would definitely stay here again.

We stayed at Lake Hotel two nights instead of one, because of its comfort and location. And also the lovely scenery we had right outside our room. It was a lovely hotel, and the staff there were delightful, from the lounge to the restaurant, to the service we received in our room. Thanks for making this possible. I don't think it was in the original itinerary, but my husband and I both are grateful to have found the place. Also, it was easy to find!

Everything about this property was superior with the exception of quality of dinner food. Breakfast buffet very good. Location and view outstanding. Watched anywhere from 8-15 deer graze outside our balcony every morning.

A really excellent choice where the service and room was of a superior quality.

The location is lovely but it would have been nice to be situated in the town so that we did not need to drive to enjoy the local cuisine at the pubs. We should have stipulated our desire to be more centrally located. The room was tiny and tucked away in a corner. We did enjoy the walk along the lake and the spa.

We were in the new section, first floor, to accomodate my difficulty walking. Lovely room, but impossible to get to the main section without doing stairs or driving. On the positive, I left my jewelry behind and they found it and posted it to me in the states, which I truly appreciated.

Great location: in front of the lake and in the park, where we could see some deers from our room. Very nice rooms and friendly people.

standard rooms spacious. old style feel to rooms. superior rooms have lake views. most rooms have jacuzzi baths. beautiful views, full of history. lake views and deer come to the hotel.

The views from the hotel were great, one of the highlights was the idea that while having dinner in the dinning room the wild deer from the woods come onto the hotel grounds to graze..
