Malton

Elegance on a grand scale, the Malton Hotel in Killarney, formerly the Great Southern Hotel, has welcomed visitors and dignitaries since 1854, it is a hotel of impressive character and the gracious "old lady" of Killarney's establishments.

Situated in the centre of the charming town of Killarney, the Malton Hotel is a landmark hotel and something of an institution in the town. For over 150 years well-heeled concierges have greeted guests from Presidents and Princes, to business barons, entertainers and sportsmen, at the grand Palladian entrance to the Great Southern. A hotel that's very much in the classic mould, the hugely spacious lobby sets the impressive tone with sumptuous sofas and pillars if pristine white marble.

The fabulously appointed bedrooms at the Malton Hotel recall the grandeur and elegance of a bygone age while keeping up with the contemporary style of today. Each has lots of space, luxurious beds and a full range of facilities, while the splendid suites go that little bit further in offering luxuriant opulence.

Fine dining is provided with a sense of further grandeur in the Garden Restaurant. A great gilt doomed room, with a ceiling decorated with intricate gold leaf tracing and situated overlooking the hotel's wonderful gardens. Here the very finest in haute cuisine is served from an imaginative international menu. While less formal dining is available in Peppers the hotel's a la Carte restaurant, set in laid back, stylish modern surroundings.

Those in search of pampered luxury needn't look to far. The Innisfallen Spa at the Southern boasts an extensive range of facilities from 17m indoor pool, steam room, Jacuzzi, gym and hydro-massage baths. The Spa also offers a full range of treatments using exclusive Yon Ka products.

As the "Old Lady" of the town, the Malton Hotel has introduced many people to the beauty of Killarney, a place of scenic mountains and lakes and traditions from an age ago, all waiting to be explored. The Southern is also well placed for golfers with famous golf courses close by in Killarney and Ballybunion.

Our favorite hotel by far. This was amazing. The hotel was gorgeous, staff were wonderful and the location was amazing.

We loved this place and could have stayed longer. Again we checked in earlier than stated and no problem. The food was excellent. Close to shopping and easy to take side trips such as the Muckross Estate.

Location was very good to access the surrounding areas and attractions. Staff was very helpful. Room was upgraded which was a pleasant surprise

Joann Rooney on Tue Sep 22 2009

We really enjoyed this hotel. The only issue we had was the room was on the third floor and with the unseasonably warm weather (it was beautiful all week) we requested a fan to stir the air. The staff was very accommodating. The food and service truly was exceptional. We would like to go back again.

Tom Schuetz on Mon Sep 21 2009

This was a great hotel. The staff was wonderful and it was in walking distance to downtown.

Carrie Sumrall on Tue Sep 15 2009

We absolutely loved this hotel and the town of Killarney. We would like to return to this area one day since the weather made it impossible to really enjoy the outdoors on this particular day.

Cynthia Mathis on Tue Sep 8 2009

Very cold room.

Sara Ronca on Mon Jan 12 2009

Good location and quiet at night except for the smokers outside the front doors whose smoke wafted up into our room. We found all the hotels quite warm inside and had to open our windows at night.

Patricia Lang on Mon Sep 22 2008

Very impressive when you entre the great southern Killareny's Lobby , The room was very spacious but the heating did not work, Once staff were contacted they responded very fast, howevere the only solution was to put an electricial heater in the room.
