Why did you join myguideIreland?
By coincidence. I saw a report on German television about Germans, who work in
Ireland. On the next day I found myguideIreland in the Internet and four weeks later I moved to Ireland.
What is your favorite part of Ireland?
That is really difficult to say. Each corner of Ireland has its own special
attractions. I like the meager landscape of Connemara with its many mountains
and the smell of the turf fires and
also Dublin with its shopping streets and TempleBar. What has to be mentioned
definitely is the Southwest of Ireland, where I live. Mild climate, directly at
the Gulf Stream, its gorgeous golf courses and its astounding natural beauty.
What is your favorite visitor attraction?
I like the ancient stone circles, which you can find everywhere in
Ireland. I also find the dolmen of
the Burren fascinating. Most impressive is the coastline, with its rough
landscape.
What is your favourite Irish food and restaurant in Ireland?
Crab Sandwich at Mary Anne's in Castletownshend. Selfbaked Brown Bread with catch-fresh crab meat, who can say no to that? Very
recommendable and with beautiful ambiance is a Dinner (at least 3 menu) in the
hotel called Athenaeum in Waterford and the breakfast buffet in Druids Glen
Hotel.
Which is your favorite pub in Ireland?
That would be Hayes Bar in Glandore Co.Cork. Cosy with fireplace in winter
times and with beautiful views to the harbour of Union Hall in summer.
Where do you like to shop?
I would say in Cork or Dublin, because you get everything there and the
pedestrian zones are very nice. Otherwise I buy my things in the shop around
the corner, because everyone knows everyone and everybody is always friendly.
Favorite getaway in Ireland?
Tuff decision. Connemara with its many beautiful accommodations is very
difficult to say. There would be the Ballynahinch Castle, with room number 26.
What's up with that, you have to find out on your own. Waterford Castle is
another favourite of mine. And of course for a weekend break I would recommend
Druids Glen next to the Wicklow Mountains.
Given your experience what advice would you give to people coming to Ireland?
Do not rush in one week from sight to sight. Come to Ireland several times and
discover one part of the country after
the other. Rent a car and explore on
your own the natural beauty of Ireland. Make sure
you do a night in a castle - it's a must.
