It is an innovative walk with a rich variety of flora and fauna and exceptional archaeological and historical content. The route completes a circular tour of North East Mayo.

The route goes from Foxford to Kilsheshnan to Straide to Derryhick and back to Foxford again. The total distance is 56 miles with the longest stage being from Kilsheshnan to Straide, a distance of 12.5 miles. Like the Mayo Western Way the Ox Mountains provides the highest peak on the walk at 1177 ft.
