With plush patterned carpet, dark antique
tables, velvet sofas, and stained glass panels in a geometric design, the Still
Bar is truly unique. Ornate grape leaf crown mouldings and carved wooden
columns set apart this elegant bar from the ordinary. An open turf fire, three
big-screen TVs, an enormous original still (from whence the name comes), and an
antique china cabinet filled with an elegant—and well worn—set of porcelain
complete the cozy look of this bar.
A separate lower level seating area done in
tones of light wood and covered by a ceiling of geometric glass and exposed
wooden beams offers yet another charming design scheme.
Perhaps one of the most striking feature is
the afternoon menu...or lack of it. With a cull carvery lunch served until
2:30, diners who wander after the carvery closes are told, “Oh, there’s no
menu. Whatever you want, we’ll fix it for you.”
The salads are organic, the sandwiches
tasty, but the dessert treat called Hot Bakewell Tart (served with ice cream)
is scrumptious.
