Historically the geographical area now comprised of Counties Cork and Kerry was known as Ivernia. The region is historically and culturally important and still has a number of Gaeltacht areas where Irish is the primary spoken language. Visits to islands such as the Blaskets, Garnish and Cape Clear are particular treats while the Ring of Kerry and Killarney town remain firm favourites year after year with both locals and toursits alike.
Getting to the Cork-Kerry Region
With both Cork airport and Kerry airport serving the area directly and with Shannon Airport less than an hour from the main tourist spots, the area is very accessible and is enjoyed by thousands of visitors each year.
There is access by sea from Roscoff in France to Cork with Brittany-Ferries and there has also been a seasonal ferry service from Swansea in the UK serving Cork, which is due to be revived in 2009.
